This complex 4 level project involved seamlessly adding to, altering and repairing a contemporary Heritage Item in Paddington Sydney. Originally the private family home, built in 1980 of renown Sydney architect Ken Woolley. Winning the Wilkinson Award the AIA highest state residential architectural award in 1983
The brief from the new owners was to upgrade and repair the original with additions to the unfinished lower level. This involved new works excavating under the building to create additional service rooms and a self contained garden flat and basement terrace. The bagged brick work, original kitchen ,metal windows and brick paved floors were restored with under floor heating added. The open stairs made safe with a fine tensile mesh screen and the curved timber ceiling restored with air-conditioning seamlessly added.
The new work skill fully maintains all the fabric and character of the original building, ensuring this important contemporary heritage item, listed as only one of 6 such modern homes on the State Heritage Register survives well into the future.
